Brief history of Chiang Mai Night Safari

Chiang Mai Night Safari first welcomed visitors in 2005, with its official opening following in 2006. Developed as a government-run nature theme park, it was created to promote wildlife conservation, environmental education, and sustainable tourism while giving visitors a chance to observe animals during their most active hours.

Over the years, the park has expanded beyond its original night safari concept to include daytime admission, walking trails, educational programmes, and family-friendly entertainment, while continuing to focus on conservation and wildlife awareness.

Spread across more than 800 rai (around 327 acres), Chiang Mai Night Safari recreates a variety of habitats for animals from Thailand and around the world. Today, the park is home to over 1,400 animals representing around 134 species, including giraffes, zebras, lions, tigers, hyenas, deer, kangaroos, and several rare animals such as golden Bengal tigers and an albino hippopotamus.
