Ceremony entrance with assigned seating area
The CAD Khomloy Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai is part of the Yi Peng and Loy Krathong celebrations, held under the full moon in November. Hosted by Chiang Mai Arts & Design on the spacious Lanna‑style grounds, this event draws around 3,500–15,000 attendees each night.
Guests gather in the late afternoon, enjoy a Lanna Thai buffet, cultural performances, tribal craft booths, and traditional rituals led by monks. The highlight comes after sunset: a countdown followed by a mass release of sky lanterns (khom loi), symbolic acts of floating away misfortune and inviting good fortune.
As lanterns rise en masse, the night sky fills with hundreds of glowing wishes – a moment many describe as breathtaking.
Chiang Mai Arts & Design (CAD) organizes the CAD Khomloy Festival, which focuses on authenticity and cultural storytelling. The festival takes place in a purpose-built cultural space surrounded by nature.
